Janice Bockius is a long-time lover of field hockey and dedicated player of the sport, first gaining interest in middle school. After much deliberation she decided to focus on field hockey as opposed to township soccer and continued her career upon entrance to the West Deptford High School, securing a spot on the Varsity team as a freshman. Janice played both midfield and defense as a Lady Eagle and earned All-Conference First Team honors her Junior and Senior year. She was also appointed Captain of the team as a senior leader and awarded MVP as well.
While attending a summer camp at Rutgers, Janice was recruited by then Head Coach Liz Tchou and joined the Scarlet Knights after graduation. Upon completing her first fall season on a Division I team, Janice decided to transfer from New Brunswick back home to attend Gloucester County College on the Stars Program.
Once she earned her Associate’s Degree, she transferred to Rowan University where she was recruited to play as a defender with the Profs under Head Coach Penny Kempf. During her time at Rowan, Janice became a true athletic scholar – she was named to the Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Academic Squad, earned NJAC All-Academic honors, and was inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society. She also started in a total of 32 games throughout two seasons and scored 4 goals overall with 2 registered as game winning goals against William Patterson and Kean University. After graduating in 2011 with a Bachelors of English and a 3.7 GPA, Janice continues to play field hockey in several Women’s and Co-ed leagues at the Moorestown Field House and Total Turf facility.
